Run Like A... Donkey?
There's plenty of fun to be had in Fife at the end of the month...
Billed as one of Scotland's 'best small summertime festivals', Fife's Aberdour Festival has been taking place for donkey's years (40 to be precise). It is fitting then that two of its highlights are the Donkey Brae Races!
As 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the Festival – there will be a packed 10-day programme of music, events and culture that has something for everyone, all set in the beautiful Fife village of Aberdour. Donkey Brae race day will be on the opening weekend of the festival which this year falls on 30 July. As ever there will be two race distances - 2 mile and 7 mile.
The scenic course is of mixed terrain over undulating coastal paths between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay. The new bridge at Aberdour harbour will be ready for this year’s races so the alternative route which organisers had been working on has been shelved. A spokesperson commented: "We've had confirmation that the bridge will be ready for the race...so we'll be using the traditional route which includes the aforementioned Donkey Brae (and the shiny new bridge)! Woo hoo!"
The Donkey Brae Run starts and finishes at the Aberdour Festival's annual village market which is always a great day out for the whole family with refreshments, entertainment and much more. It provides a perfect opportunity to replenish the calories you've burned in the race and the perfect place to wear your medal with pride.
