Three Down, Three To Go For Adele

Adele Roberts is halfway through her remarkable Abbott World Major Marathon challenge...

Award-winning broadcaster, cancer survivor, record breaker and marathon runner Adele Roberts, is midway through her biggest running challenge to date - to complete six of the Abbott World Major Marathons in just six months. Even more impressive is that the three she has already achieved (New York, Chicago and Berlin) happened within a period of just five weeks.

But Adele is used to facing challenges and has a track record in overcoming them in style, this is a woman who took on bowel cancer (and won) and, soon after, set a marathon world record (at London) while still recovering from her treatment for bowel cancer.

This time, Roberts is attempting to become the fastest woman with an ileostomy to complete all six World Major Marathons. She's raising awareness for bowel cancer and living with a stoma, and supporting Cancer Research UK and Attitude Mag Foundation.

Her continuing positive mindset has led her to this challenge and with New York, Berlin and Chicago already under her belt - she is looking forward to spring 2025 with anticipation and excitement to achieve that elusive 6 Star status and hopefully a world record to boot!

What makes Adele’s achievements even more remarkable is that she runs with a stoma which is there to remove waste from her body as it recovers from her bowel surgery. Speaking about this, Adele says: “Having a stoma is challenging, it keeps me alive but it is like having a naughty baby strapped to your front. I have to time my runs and fuel as much as I can but never too much. I just keep reminding myself that this is a set of marathons, it is not a sprint.”
