Still Time To Run This New Event
Now’s your chance to be part of this new highlight on the summer running calendar...
We first brought you news of this exciting addition to the Scottish running scene earlier this year, but with race weekend fast approaching, we wanted to remind you about the Glen Tanar Trail Running Festival, taking place on 26 and 27 July. Organised by the team behind the much-loved Illuminator Night Run, this two-day festival promises an unforgettable trail running experience set in the spectacular Glen Tanar Estate within the Cairngorms National Park on Royal Deeside.
The organisers explain: "Runners will take on routes that weave across moorland, through ancient Caledonian pine forests and alongside the winding River Tanar, offering a true taste of Scottish wilderness."
Saturday features 8K and 15K races, ideal for beginners, families and those looking to explore the estate at a comfortable pace or chase a fast time. On Sunday, the intensity steps up with a 25K race and a demanding 55K ultra-marathon designed for seasoned trail and endurance runners. Organisers say: "The 8K distance is proving the most popular so far, with the 15K close behind. Both are fantastic ways to enjoy the Glen Tanar trails and see the iconic Illuminator routes in full daylight."
The terrain offers a perfect mix of challenge and enjoyment, with something for every level of ability. Scenic views, varied trails and the welcoming atmosphere make this a standout weekend for both first-timers and experienced competitors.
To complete the experience, runners can look forward to post-race food from Edelwurst Catering, an Aberdeenshire favourite serving up authentic German specialities like bratwurst and schnitzel. The Coull Beans Coffee Trailer will be on hand too, with great coffee, cakes and their famous empire biscuits.
