Run The Blades Brings Trail Running Back To Whitelee

Wind farm trails return this summer...

Run The Blades returns to Whitelee Wind Farm near Eaglesham from 17 to 19 July 2026 with another weekend of trail running across one of Scotland’s most distinctive endurance event locations. Organised by Breaking Strain Events, the popular off road weekend combines a Friday evening 10K, a Half Marathon and the demanding 50K ultra through the vast landscape surrounding the UK’s largest onshore wind farm.

Set within the rugged terrain of Whitelee Wind Farm, the routes weave through moorland trails, forestry tracks and open countryside beneath the towering turbines that have become the event’s trademark backdrop. The location gives runners a very different feel from traditional trail races, combining big skies, exposed terrain and wide open scenery only a short drive from Glasgow.

The event has grown steadily over the last decade and now attracts a broad mix of runners, from first time trail racers stepping up to the 10K through to experienced ultra runners taking on the full 50K challenge. Organisers also offer the chance to complete all three races across the weekend for runners looking for an even bigger endurance test.

One of the reasons Run The Blades has become so popular is the atmosphere created around the race village and the supportive feel out on the course. Friendly marshals, well marked routes and the unique wind farm setting continue to give the weekend a character that stands apart within the Scottish trail running calendar.

For runners, the Half Marathon often hits the sweet spot between challenge and accessibility. The rolling trails and constant changes in terrain provide a proper off road experience without the commitment of ultra distance racing, while the 50K offers a serious endurance challenge across exposed countryside paths and remote sections of the site.

Breaking Strain Events continues to build its reputation within Scottish trail running through events that focus on atmosphere, scenery and adventure as much as competition. Entries are open now ahead of the July return to Whitelee Wind Farm.

Entries are available now via njuko.
