Plenty To Crow About
Cockerel 10K and Surrey Championships Dorking 10 return for the 40th time...
Dorking & Mole Valley Athletics Club is crowing about the 40th anniversary of their Cockerel 10K and Dorking 10-mile races on Sunday, 7th June 2026. To mark the 40th running of the Dorking 10, the host club is donating 40% of the profits to charity, with 20% earmarked for each of the Patchworking Garden Project and Dyscover main charities.
The Dorking 10 will incorporate the Surrey Ten Mile Road Race Championships, adding extra spice to this runABC Featured Event. Last year's Dorking 10 winner was Jack Kavanagh (Holland Sports AC), who also claimed the Surrey gold in 50:22 – with the second fastest male time after Phil Wicks (Belgrave Harriers) ran the event record 49:13 in 2011.
The 2025 women's champion was Alice Crane (Guildford & Godalming AC, 58:51), who also took Surrey gold. The fastest female time over the 40-year history of the race was set by G. Tamray, with 58:06 in 2001. There were 426 finishers in the 10-miler and 185 in the Cockerel 10K last year.
The course for both races is based on a loop from Brockham Green. There is a cut-off at Snowerhill, where the 10-mile course adds an extra loop. Anyone who is entered in the 10-mile race reaching this point after 45 minutes is directed straight ahead towards Betchworth Bridge and the finish at Dorking Rugby Club. This arrangement ensures all entrants complete 10K or 10 miles within a safe time limit.
The race HQ is at Dorking Rugby Club. Car parking and the finish are on the Big Field, Kiln Lane, Brockham, RH3 7LZ, near to the warm welcome of The Inn on the Green. Dorking & Mole Valley Athletics Club provides up to 100 race marshals.
