Surrey Gold For Kavanagh And Crane
Top times in warm weather at the Dorking 10 and Cockerel 10K...
Just over 600 runners contested the Dorking Tens, a runABC Featured Event comprising the Cockerel 10K and the Dorking 10-mile Surrey championships race on Sunday 1 June 2025.
Dorking & Mole Valley Athletics Club has been hosting this popular race for 39 years, and the many repeat entrants are testament to the organisational quality. This year, 40% of the profit will be donated to two charities: The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Action for Carers Surrey.
Both races start together at Brockham Green. There is a cut-off at Snowerhill, where the 10-mile course adds an extra loop. Anyone entered in the 10-mile race who reaches this one-third distance point after 45 minutes is directed straight ahead towards Betchworth Bridge and the finish at Dorking Rugby Club. This arrangement ensures all entrants complete an accurate 10K or 10 miles within a safe time limit.
This year's Cockerel 10K champions were Dorking & Mole Valley's Daniel Evans (34:55) and Katherine Golding, of Hunters Bog Trotters, in 38:37, in an excellent fifth overall. Half a dozen beat 40 minutes, and 184 finished in an hour and 45 minutes.
The Surrey Championships titles were keenly fought in the Dorking 10-mile race, and there was a near-sub-50-minute men's winner. Jack Kavanagh (Holland Sports AC) claimed the Surrey gold in 50:22 from Belgrave Harriers' Phil Wicks (52:23) and George Grassly (53:05).
The first two women broke the hour. Alice Crane (Guildford & Godalming AC) prevailed in 58:51 over Gaby Reynolds (Herne Hill Harriers, 59:51) and Katie Grinyer (Guildford & Godalming AC, 60:18).
An impressive pace of six-minute miling was achieved by 45 of the 428 finishers, who were all back at Dorking Rugby Club just over two hours after the start.
There was plenty of support on the course as the host club provides up to 100 marshals. As predicted in our preview, the conditions were warm and sunny.
