The Marathon With A Yorkshire Twist
October's Yorkshire Marathon has much to offer runners looking for their next big challenge...
The Altra Yorkshire Marathon returns on 19 October, now in its 12th year, this 26.2-mile race winds through the historic city of York. Thousands of runners will stand on the start line this autumn, ready to take on the challenge, flocking from across the UK and beyond to experience a marathon with a real Yorkshire twist.
One of the diamond routes on the UK running scene, the Altra Yorkshire Marathon takes participants past some of the most iconic landmarks York has to offer. After passing York Minster, runners race toward the city walls before heading out into the stunning Yorkshire countryside.
At the furthest point, Buttercrambe Wood, the course turns back towards the city, passing Balloon Tree Farm on its way to the finish. As runners descend on the finish line at The University of York, the crowds get intense, loud and energetic - an atmospheric finish line is guaranteed.
But it’s not just about history and scenery, the Yorkshire Marathon has serious PB potential - with just 281 feet of elevation gain over the full 26.2 miles, quick times are possible. Thousands of marathon PBs have been set here, and thousands more runners join the 0.01% club when they cross the marathon finish line for the very first time.
Not ready for the full marathon? Enter the Altra Yorkshire 10 Mile for the same incredible experience at a shorter distance or get the family and friends involved and take on the 26.2 miles as a relay team, with each participant doing their part to complete the marathon distance.
