Wee Run's Women Only Ultra
This new Perthshire ultra is a women-only affair...
A new women-only ultramarathon is set to showcase one of Scotland’s newest long distance routes when the River Tay Way Ultra takes place on 1 August this year. Organised by Wee Run Events, the 75K race will follow the fully waymarked River Tay Way from Loch Tay to Scone Palace, offering runners a varied route of road, tarmac path and trail through Perthshire scenery.
The race will begin on the shores of Loch Tay and follow the River Tay corridor towards Perth, offering runners a continuous point to point journey through one of the country’s newest long distance routes, officially opened in 2025.
The event has been created as a female only ultramarathon aimed at increasing participation in longer distance racing. Research highlighted by SheRaces shows women remain significantly underrepresented in ultrarunning, and organisers say participation figures at recent events have reflected a similar decline.
They told us: "The River Tay Way Ultra has been designed to provide a supportive environment for women, non binary runners and trans men, with a focus on accessibility, safety and inclusion. Generous cut off times, comprehensive course marking, medical support and pre event route recce opportunities are planned, alongside practical measures intended to remove barriers to participation."
The overall aim of this new event is not only to deliver a challenging ultramarathon but also to help build confidence and representation in endurance running by creating an event where participants feel supported from start to finish.
