TCS Mini London Marathon 2022

Kipchoge presents medals at Mini London Marathon

Thousands of children are thrilled to meet the world record holder

A reimagined TCS Mini London Marathon took place on Saturday (1 October) one day before the TCS London Marathon. The new format was an instant success, with thousands of children aged 4-17 experiencing a mass participation event and crossing the famous finish line in The Mall.

Every child who finished the 2022 TCS Mini London Marathon was rewarded with £10 paid to their school to spend on PE or IT equipment, provided by new headline sponsors, TCS.

Perhaps the greatest thrill was meeting TCS Mini London Marathon ambassador and four-time London Marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge – fresh from his superb world record-breaking performance in Berlin the previous Sunday (25 September) – who was on hand to present the medals and trophies.

Prior to undertaking his awards duties, Kipchoge said: “I really support the initiative of the TCS London Marathon to promote running at all ages. I like running to be a family activity since running is life. It will bring joy, happiness, and health to our children, who are the future, so let’s all embrace this.”

TCS London Marathon Event Director Hugh Brasher, who was at the start to watch young participants in the Mini-Marathon, said: “This is just the beginning, in more ways than one. Our ambition is to have 50,000 children taking part by 2030 – that’s 50,000 children getting active, experiencing the mental and physical benefits of exercise and learning healthy habits for life every year – and potentially millions of children over time. There’s a long way to go, but seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of kids of all ages and abilities on the Start Line today has made me more determined than ever to get there.”

This brilliant sponsorship agreement is part of London Marathon Events’ commitment to inspiring more children to be physically active. It builds on the success of the virtual TCS Mini London Marathon where children run 2.6 miles in schools, with 600,000 children across the UK expected to register this year.
