Stone Circle Marathon Brings Grassroots Trail Racing To Yorkshire
Volunteer race with real character...
The Stone Circle Marathon & Half takes place in Gargrave, North Yorkshire on Saturday 31 October 2026 with both a marathon and half marathon offering a multi terrain challenge in a classic Yorkshire setting.
Starting and finishing at Gargrave Village Hall, the route uses a mix of fields, footpaths, canal towpaths and quiet country roads, with runners heading out towards the Broughton Stone Circle before looping back. The half marathon completes one loop while the marathon doubles it, creating a course that blends runnable sections with steady effort throughout.
This is very much a grassroots event with a difference. Entirely volunteer led and non profit, the race has been created to support fundraising for a World Scout Jamboree place, giving it a purpose that goes beyond race day. It is a clear example of a community driven event that brings runners together for something meaningful.
With three refreshment stations per loop, full event facilities and a welcoming setup, the race is designed by runners for runners. The smaller scale adds to the appeal, offering a more personal experience compared to larger city events while still delivering a well organised day.
Entries are open until late October and with limited numbers, the event is expected to attract runners looking for a different kind of challenge. As a growing addition to the North Yorkshire calendar, it has the feel of a popular race in the making, especially for those drawn to trail running and community led events.
