Dodging the raindrops at the Fen 10 Mile Road Race

Fen 10 delivers a slick race again

Ten out of 10 for this sublimely quick 10 Miler.

Full marks for the Rhodia Fen 10 (Sunday 30 October) that saw runners cut through the wind (and a heavy rain shower) to bag an autumn PB. Andrew Jakeman and Kanina O’Neil ‘marched’ to victory...

The Rhodia Fen 10 is an ideal race for any runner looking to move up from a 10K with an eye on a future half marathon. Runners got a fine flat and fast course on quiet country roads that wound its way around West Walton with enthusiastic marshals supporting everyone to the end.

Conditions were blustery along with a quick downpour – not dissimilar to last year’s weather – but nothing to stop the runners in their tracks. The wind made it tough going at times which meant dig in and push through and participants did just that. Their reward was a podium place, age group win, PB or elation at completing the distance and the mouth-watering line-up of homemade cake.

The race started (and finished) at Marshland High School where at 11am over 200 runners sped out onto the roads, target times on their mind as they put the hammer down for 10 miles.

Andrew Jakeman of March AC won the Fen 10 in 54:23. Phil Martin of Peterborough & Nene Valley AC – EMAC came second in 55:16 and Martin Amos of Huntingdonshire AC third in 56:25.

March AC took top honours in the women’s race with Kanina O’Neil the winning female in 1:04:18. Samantha Cullen of Eye Community Runners was the second female in 1:05:09 with Maggie Skinner of Peterborough & Nene Valley AC – EMAC third in 1:06:26.

The last runner crossed the line in 2:24:15. There were 211 finishers.

All the results are available via the runABC Midlands Race Listings page.

Then it was time to sample the delicious looking cakes on offer as post-race recovery.
