Get your costume ready for this quirky but competitive event...

One of Shropshire’s most entertaining and unique running events is back as the Rocky Horror Picture Show Tribute Run returns to Shrewsbury Sports Village on 3 August. With a choice of 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon distances, the event promises a day packed with fun, fast times and fantastic costumes.

Held on the purpose-built cycle track at Shrewsbury Sports Village, the race invites runners to embrace the spirit of the cult classic film while chasing personal bests on a flat, fast course. Organisers report that over 75% of runners achieved PBs at last year’s event, with many dressed in everything from fishnets to feather boas.

The atmosphere at the Rocky Horror Tribute Run is all part of the appeal. With themed music playing throughout the day, a strong fancy dress presence and a supportive, party-like crowd, this race has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most enjoyable events in the region.

For those who can’t attend in person, a virtual race option is available, allowing participants to complete their chosen distance wherever they are and still receive their finisher medal by post. All that’s required is submitting a GPS track of the completed run via Garmin or Strava.

Reflecting on the 2024 edition, participant Paul Davies said on Facebook: “Great day as always. Lots of gutsy performances and lots of interesting running outfits!”
