Racing Across Scotland

Scotland's 215 mile coast-to-coast epic returns this August...

The epic Race Across Scotland is back for its ninth edition from 9 to 13 August, offering one of the most challenging endurance events on the UK running calendar. This 215-mile continuous single-stage ultramarathon follows the full length of the Southern Upland Way, taking runners coast to coast across Scotland.

Starting at Portpatrick Harbour in Dumfries and Galloway and finishing in the village of Cockburnspath on Scotland’s east coast, the route offers a spectacular and punishing journey across the country. From rugged coastlines and remote moorland to dense forests and mountain ridges, the trail traverses some of the most beautiful and varied terrain Scotland has to offer.

This is no ordinary race. Due to the extreme nature and difficulty of the event, entry is by application only, ensuring that every participant is prepared for the physical and mental challenge of a lifetime. With limited places available and an international field of ultrarunners, this prestigious event continues to attract endurance athletes from around the world.

Finishing the Race Across Scotland is a major achievement in itself, but those who place in the top three male and female categories earn the coveted two-tone Race Across Scotland buckles. The top 25 finishers receive a rare gold buckle, places 26 to 75 receive silver, and all other finishers are awarded a bronze buckle to mark their success on this incredible journey.

In 2024, Caspian James set the current men’s course record at an astonishing 53 hours 37 minutes and 11 seconds. The women’s record stands at 62 hours and 20 minutes, set by Joasia Zakrzewski in 2021.

Organisers say: "This is more than just a race. It is a life-changing adventure that tests every aspect of endurance, determination and resilience. Apply now to secure a place in one of the most remarkable ultramarathons in the world!"
