Penicuik Harriers 10K 2026

Famous For The Hill

Penicuik’s classic 10K returns with its signature climb and stunning Pentland views...

One of Scotland’s best-known local road races returns this spring, as the Penicuik Harriers 10K takes place on Saturday 9 May 2026.

Now in its 41st year, the race has built a strong reputation within the Scottish running calendar, not least for being “famous for the hill” - a challenge that has become part of its identity and appeal.

The 10K route starts and finishes in Penicuik, taking runners out towards Howgate and along the Peebles Road before looping back. It’s a course that combines steady climbing with rewarding sections, including the much-loved Mile Brae downhill, where runners can really open up on the return.

While the hill provides the challenge, the scenery delivers the reward. Runners are treated to sweeping views of the Pentland Hills on the return leg, adding a scenic edge to what is already a well-balanced and engaging course.

The event is organised by Penicuik Harriers, a club with deep roots in the local running community, and the race continues to reflect that strong community spirit. With a welcoming atmosphere, local support and post-race refreshments on offer, it’s as much about the experience as it is about the result.

Starting at 11am from Bog Road Playing Fields, the race operates under Scottish Athletics rules and includes a 1.5-hour time limit, making it accessible while still providing a competitive edge for those chasing a strong performance.

With entries open and demand expected to build as race day approaches, the Penicuik Harriers 10K once again looks set to deliver a classic Scottish race experience — one where the climb tests you, the downhill rewards you, and the finish line always feels earned.
