TCS London Marathon 2025

Seeing Double!

Change is afoot at the London Marathon...

You could be seeing double in 2027, as the organisers of the TCS London Marathon are seriously considering making it a two-day event! After a world record 1.1 million people applied in the public ballot to participate in the 2026 edition – a 36% increase on the previous year – we can reveal that plans are at an advanced stage for a 'one-off event' to be held, potentially allowing 100,000 runners to take part next year.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: "London is the sporting capital of the world and the Mayor looks forward to working with London Marathon and partners to consider if it might be possible to host an event that will run across two days next year."

A London Marathon Events spokesperson said: "The London Marathon is the world's most popular marathon, and we are continually exploring innovative ways to enable more people to take part, while delivering positive benefits for London. Together with our partners and stakeholders, we are looking at the intention for the 2027 London Marathon to take place across two days."

The provisional dates for the 2027 London Marathon are 24th – 25th April, with the elite men's and elite women's races on separate days, along with two mass participation races. We believe the London Mini Marathon will continue to be held on the Saturday.

The Body Coach Foundation, founded by the nation’s PE teacher and fitness coach Joe Wicks, has been confirmed as the Official Charity Partner of the TCS Mini London Marathon and the TCS Mini London Marathon in schools. The two-year partnership will see The Body Coach Foundation – the charity arm of The Body Coach – support the ambition to get 50,000 children taking part in the TCS Mini London Marathon and one million children participating in the TCS Mini London Marathon in schools by 2030.

In other London Marathon news – it's hard keeping pace these days – the 46th TCS London Marathon on Sunday, 26th April 2026, will be preceded by the first ever TCS London Marathon & Friday Night Lights 5K, with wave starts from 7:45pm on Friday, 24th April in Battersea Park. Tickets cost £45 and are now on sale here.

Talking of keeping pace, Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee has been confirmed as a pacemaker, where he is tasked with pacing Emile Cairess, the leading British athlete in the field. Alex Bell, the recent winner of the GetPRO Bath Half, who has been named in the Great Britain team for the World Athletics Road Running Championships Half Marathon in Copenhagen in September, will set the pace for the leading British women.

Sir Ben Ainslie, the most successful sailor in Olympic History with four gold medals, will run his first marathon in London later this month. Top names from other sports to look out for include former Arsenal and England football captain Tony Adams; England cricket legend Sir Alastair Cook; Britain's most decorated Olympian Dame Laura Kenny, and four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel.
