Celebrate The Trails
Lots of options for lovers of trail running at this year's Keswick Mountain Festival...
Runners will be heading towards the Lake District this May for some off-road action as part of a busy weekend at the Keswick Mountain Festival. They will be up hills and down trails as they complete 5K, 10K, 25K or 50K in the Adidas TERREX Runs (all 20 May).
The Adidas TERREX runs are a popular part of the festival with their beautiful courses, friendly atmosphere and in the case of the 10K, a ferry ride to the start line courtesy of the Keswick Launch Company. They are ideal for any runner looking to make the transition from tarmac or who wants to enter a trail race this spring instead of a big city road race.
The 10K Trail Run has 330m of ascent and is graded ‘moderate’ therefore open to all levels of runner, organisers say it 'is a beautiful course to be enjoyed by all'! Yes, runners can expect amazing running in some of the Lake District's best trail running country along the shores of Derwentwater and under the fellside flank of the famous Catbells.
Looking for something a little longer? The 25K Trail Half Marathon (and a bit!) is graded ‘hard’ and sits almost halfway between the 10K & 50K routes in difficulty, ascent and terrain. Technical, fast flowing and rugged trails take runners around Derwentwater and the Borrowdale Valley with the Watendlath Valley thrown in for good measure.
The 50K Trail Ultra Marathon is graded ‘very hard’ and one to get into your 2023 ultra running calendar if you’re looking for UTMB index points! The ultra marathon is fast becoming a classic with a fantastic course that takes in some of the best trails and views that the Watendlath, Borrowdale, Buttermere and Newlands valleys have to offer.
The Keswick Mountain Festival is child-friendly and dog-friendly with a variety of things to see and do. There are food and drink stalls, exhibitors, a skills camp, taster activities and sports events such as the Adidas TERREX Runs.
