Go East For A Posh Half
It's time to polish up your PB at Peterborough...
The AEGP Great Eastern Run, sponsored by Asset Earning Power Group, will return to Peterborough on Sunday 13 October 2024 – surely the Poshest half marathon ever!
Peterborough United acquired the nickname "The Posh" after Pat Tirrell, manager of Fletton United, was reported to say he was: "Looking for posh players for a posh new team”. In 1934, Fletton United reformed as Peterborough United and kept the nickname which has since been adopted widely to describe the Cambridgeshire cathedral city that straddles the River Nene.
The 12th and 13th-century Peterborough Cathedral, with its Gothic facade, features in the course of the AEGP Great Eastern Run that passes around the cathedral and through its grounds. This popular element was introduced last year and has been retained, along with some minor tweaks following feedback from runners and key organising partners.
Nearly 3,000 runners finished last year in 3:27:00 and the winning times were 1:06:23 by Joe Wilkinson, of Bingley Harriers, and 1:17:05 by Mabel Beckett, representing City of Norwich AC. There are Race Pacers, sponsored by Savills, for eight groups between 90 minutes and 2:45:00. Last year's results show that 275 ran under 90 minutes.
Onsite massage is available from TMACLife and all finishers are promised an awesome medal and finish line goodies. There are five hydration stations en route and a dynamic warm-up for all from the stage in the Event Village. Entry includes access to free training sessions and a training plan.
Last year's race atmosphere can be seen in this highlights reel...
