Gosport Half Marathon 2023

With good weather conditions, it is an excellent PB Course and a great community event that last year sold out when the maximum 2,000 entrants was reached. The start line is conveniently situated 140 meters from Race Headquarters. Runners setting out on this scenic two-lap course have a fabulous stretch along the Lee-on-the-Solent promenade that has far-reaching coastal views of the Isle of Wight. Runners will be hydrated at five water stations; encouraged by some of the most supportive marshals around and have their spirits lifted by the Samba Drum Band at the four- and 10.5-mile point. To underline the Personal Best (PB) potential of this flat and fast course the top eight men went under 73 minutes last year with Jaymee Domoney (1.08.41), City of Salisbury A&RC, setting the pace. The top eight women finished inside eighty-eight minutes and the winner was Lesley Locks (1.22.48), Aldershot, Farnham & District AC). All timings are in Gun time.    A Fun Run and a Young Person’s Challenge Race will take place before the main event. There is a 1km Fun Run for children aged under 12, followed by a 2km Challenge Race for the under 17’s, with a £3.00 entry fee. All runners (including children) will receive a medal and Goodie Bag. The Gosport Half Marathon is a venue for the Hampshire Road Race League but unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchair athletes. Race entries tend to be evenly split between Club and non-Club runners, so there is a good mix of abilities that ensures the race feels busy but rarely crowded. Gosport Road Runners with a club policy preventing members from competing in their home race, provide a team of approximately 100 marshals and combined with the local community youth groups there will be more than 200 people supporting you. The club considers this gesture a  way of saying ‘thank you’ to all the other clubs that have hosted races for them throughout the year. Surplus profits from hosting this event are distributed to local charities. Full details and answers to many FAQs are available on the Gosport Half Marathon website.
