Mob Match

Which Mob Will Be On Top?

Mob Match returns as Kinross and Perth Road Runners prepare for 2025 showdown...

The annual Mob Match between Kinross Road Runners (KRR) and Perth Road Runners (PRR) is set to return on 19 August, with runners lining up at Crook of Devon for another edition of this increasingly popular inter-club fixture. Now in its fourth year, the race will use the same trail course as the 2023 edition and promises another evening of friendly rivalry, local pride and fierce competition.

This unique format pits just two clubs against each other, with yellow vests of Kinross taking on the green of Perth in a points-based team contest. Men’s and women’s races are scored separately before being combined to decide the overall winners. In the event of a tie, the club with the lowest aggregate score takes home the honours.

Mob matches are more commonly seen in the South of England, but this Perthshire-based version has quickly grown into a much-loved fixture. From humble beginnings in 2022, when PRR issued the challenge to KRR, numbers have grown year-on-year. The inaugural matches ended with Kinross victorious in both men’s and women’s races. In 2023 the field swelled to nearly 100 and by 2024, participation had reached 121.

As well as bragging rights, the victorious club gets to repaint the Mob Match trophy (a model of Peter Rabbit) in their own club colours. Whether Peter wears yellow or green in 2025 is still to be decided, but one thing is certain: it will be earned on the trails of Crook of Devon in what has become one of the most eagerly anticipated dates on both clubs’ calendars.
