Alton Runners
A fantastic trail race awaits runners in Alton this autumn...
After a successful outing in 2023, the The Alton 10K Challenge & Fun Run returns to the Staffordshire race calendar this year on Saturday 14 September.
There will be a slightly modified route for 2024, organisers say: "Whilst we have an exciting new route, the run will have the same features that we have enjoyed for over 30 years – minimising the use of tarmac, being mainly on gravel tracks and trails, and still having a challenging uphill finish!"
Runners will set off from the White Hart Pub and pass through the magnificent scenery of Dimmingsdale as well as some beautiful sections of the Churnet Valley.
Speaking further on the course, organisers say: "We are delighted that the Kenelm Youth Trust have again kindly given us permission to run through the grounds of Alton Castle – creating an excellent course through some fantastic scenery.
"From the Castle, runners will head down into the Churnet Valley, along the old railway line, over Lord’s Bridge and up into beautiful Dimmingsdale. Then it’s back along the old railway line, with a good stretch back up to the Castle and back to the White Hart for some well-earned refreshment!"
Close to 70 runners took place in 2023's 10K race, it was Martin Evans who won the race in a time of 43:11, while first female was Louis Harsthorne who clocked 50:17.
