Thousands of runners and supporters filled the streets of York at the weekend for the 2025 Altra Yorkshire Marathon Festival, marking a landmark year as Altra took on the title sponsorship for the first time. The festival featured the full marathon, 10 mile and relay events, delivering an unforgettable day of running in the region.
More than 10,000 participants took to the historic streets, with runners travelling from across the UK and beyond to take part. Runners set off from the University of York before heading into the city centre, past its historic landmarks and then out into the surrounding countryside before returning to finish back at the university.
Edward Buck claimed victory in the Altra Yorkshire Marathon, finishing in 2:18:15, ahead of Rob Corney in 2:20:15 and Thomas Cornthwait in 2:23:46. In the women’s field, Heather Townsend produced a stunning performance to win in 2:38:58, setting a new course record for the 26.2-mile route. Melissah Gibson was second in 2:43:03, with Alice Lambert third in 2:45:00.
Samuel Roberts won the 10 Mile event in 49:33, also setting a new course record. Liam Johnson finished second in 51:51, and Kieran Walker third in 52:23. The women’s title went to Katy Wood in 56:55, followed by Gabby Tofig in 59:04 and Charlotte Knowles in 59:11.
A spokesperson said: “A massive well done and thank you to all participants who joined us for the Altra Yorkshire Marathon Festival. The atmosphere has been incredible, and it’s been a fantastic day of running and fundraising for participants of all abilities and ages. The enthusiasm and support, year on year, from everyone involved is amazing.”
