York’s Day In The Sun
Runners came out in force to enjoy this year’s York 10K…
The city of York became a blaze of colour on Sunday (7 August) as thousands of runners, charity fundraisers and club runners came together to cross the finish line at the York 10K.
Large and enthusiastic crowds created a tremendous atmosphere as they cheered participants of all ages and abilities along the route and across the finish line. Attracted by the opportunity to run through York’s historic and leafy streets, runners from across the UK came to take part in the hugely popular road race.
First across the finish line was Tim O'Donoghue in a time of 30:48. This means that he beat the previous course record, set in 2012, by just one second! Matthew Nelson took second place in 30:57 with Jack Kelly in third in 32:10.
Leila Armoush was the first woman across the finish line in 35:54 followed by Sarah Hunter who clocked 36:26 for second spot and Emily Gibbins who took third in 36:33.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All said: “The response to the York 10K never ceases to amaze us. The sun was shining and the enthusiasm and support from everyone involved, from the participants themselves to the many spectators, sponsors, partners and volunteers, all ensured the day was a fantastic success.
“It was brilliant to see so many participants cross the finish line at both the York 10K and Arena Group York Fun Run and we already can’t wait for next year’s York 10K.”
Participants raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part in the event, including the York 10K partner charities – Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Changing Lives, Macmillan Cancer Support, Mind York, St Leonard’s Hospice, The Island York, York Against Cancer, Refugee Action York, RSPCA York, Harrogate & District Branch & St Catherine’s Hospice.
