Winter Excalibur Trail Races

New Race Has Altitude & Attitude

New trail races set to debut in North Wales this November...

Trail runners are in for a new challenge this autumn as the inaugural Winter Excalibur Trail Races take place on 2 November in the stunning Clwydian Range of North Wales.

The Excalibur name is already well known for its off-road events, and the addition of a winter race promises to bring a fresh test to runners keen to take on the hills at a different time of year. The new edition features a choice of two distances: a 10K with over 1,300 feet of ascent and a 17K route with more than 2,700 feet of climbing.

The Clwydian Range, rich in Arthurian legend, provides a dramatic backdrop for the event. Runners can expect to tackle varied terrain including woodland paths, open hillside and rugged tracks, all while soaking up some of the most striking scenery in North Wales. Organisers say: "Both courses are designed to challenge the legs and lungs, combining tough ascents with technical trails and rewarding views."

The race base will be at Moel Famau Donkeys, where facilities will include parking, toilets, food stalls and hot and cold refreshments for runners and supporters. Every finisher will receive a medal or memento to mark their achievement.

This year’s Winter Excalibur Trail Races will support Running Head First, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping people across the North West and Wales improve their physical and mental health.
