Wigan Runs for Others!
Take part in one of the north west's biggest charity races this September...
The popular Wigan 10K will return on 1 September this year and if you're looking for a way to 'give back' to society then this is a 10K with charity at its heart. Organised in conjunction with Team JJ, all registration fees go directly to the charity to help in the battle to fund vital research, clinical roles and trials, and improved standards of care for boys living with the muscle wasting condition Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Due to the continuing building works taking place in the town centre, this year's race will once again start and finish in Mesnes Park. There will be live entertainment on stage, and the continental food markets will be in town, so organisers are encouraging all runners and spectators to hang around in the town after the run to make the most of the atmosphere.
Speaking after last year's event, a spokesperson said: "We are absolutely delighted to announce that our 11th HW Moon Toyota Wigan 10K and Family Mile has raised an incredible £35,000 for Joining Jack - by far our biggest total since the pandemic and smashing and even doubling last year's total! What a fantastic total for Team JJ."
Over 1500 runners took part in the 2003 edition with Jon-Jo Doherty of Liverpool Harriers & AC winning the race in a time of 31:21 with first female spot going to GB international Gemma Steel in 34:21.
This year, prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third male and female runners, as well as the winners of a number of other categories, and there will be an awards ceremony for the winners held on the day on the main stage in the town centre. If you don't expect a podium position, then don't worry as all runners will receive a finisher's goody bag and medal.
