Wheelbirks Summer 10K

New 10K For Northumberland

This new 10K race offers stunning trails, farm hospitality and green values...

The Wheelbirks Summer 10K will make its debut on Wednesday 9 July, offering runners a challenging and scenic midweek trail race in the heart of Northumberland. Hosted at Wheelbirks Farm, organisers of the '10K-ish' race promise a proper trail running experience.

Runners will start just outside the orchard behind the farm café and follow a course inspired by the popular Cow Shed Backyard Ultra, with some extra twists including a river crossing and more elevation. Featuring a mix of farmland, forest paths, woodland trails and some steep technical climbs and descents there is much to offer runners looking for a race with a bit of interest.

The café will be open before and after the race for coffee, ice cream, food and post-run beers with the relaxed farm setting offering the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy the countryside atmosphere with fellow runners before and after the event.

Put on by Greener Miles Running, the race is organised with a strong eco ethos. There are no disposable plastic cups or race T-shirts, but runners can expect a thoughtful and environmentally conscious experience. Finishers will receive a unique ECO medal, a packet of mixed wildflower seeds to plant in support of pollinators, and free downloadable event photos.

Participants are encouraged to use the event’s Facebook car share group to reduce environmental impact and be in with a chance to win race entries.
