Runners don't have long to wait for this year's AJ Bell Great North 10K which returns on 6 July and promises to be the biggest yet, with over 10,000 runners expected to take on the streets of Newcastle in what’s shaping up to be an unforgettable day.
This year’s event features a new and improved route that keeps everything runners loved in previous years, including the iconic Tyne Bridge, while offering fewer twists and turns for a smoother experience. Organisers told us: "With a high-energy start and finish on the Great North Road, the new course is easier to access and designed to create an even more electric race-day atmosphere."
Participants can expect to take in some of the city’s most famous sights as they run past landmarks like Grey’s Monument, the city’s renowned universities, galleries and museums. Newcastle’s rich history and striking architecture will form a stunning backdrop for the race.
As always, entertainment will be at the heart of the experience. Bands on the Run will keep spirits high, while the Karaoke Kicks zone offers runners a chance to belt out their favourite tunes mid-stride. The Power Thru and Beats Boost zones will bring energy to the final stretch, with big beats and big cheers helping every runner cross the line in style.
The Newcastle United Foundation is once again the official charity partner and this year’s black and white wave is the largest yet. Runners showing their support will wear special run numbers and are raising money for a variety of inspiring local causes. They’re sure to get plenty of encouragement from the crowd.
All finishers will receive an exclusive medal and t-shirt featuring some of Newcastle’s most recognisable landmarks, from the Tyne Bridge to the Great North Museum. It’s the perfect keepsake to commemorate the achievement. After the run, the party continues on the Town Moor, where music, food and drinks will be waiting to reward everyone’s efforts.
