Time To Tackle The Tissington Trail
Set against the backdrop of some of England’s most beautiful landscapes, the Tissington Trail Half Marathon continues to be one of the UK’s most sought-after autumn races...
Runners will once again descend on the Derbyshire Dales this autumn for the Tissington Trail Half Marathon, taking place across the weekend of Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September. Organised by Nice Work, this ever-popular event offers participants the chance to race along a scenic, traffic-free route rich in history and natural beauty.
The half marathon follows the path of the old railway line from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne, tracing a gentle 13-mile descent along the Tissington Trail. With a steady downhill gradient and expansive views of the Peak District countryside, the course is not only picturesque but also promises strong potential for personal bests.
Originally part of the Ashbourne to Buxton railway, the Tissington Trail is now one of the most popular recreational routes in the region. It connects with the High Peak Trail at Parsley Hay, another former railway line that has been transformed into a haven for runners, walkers and cyclists.
The event is held over two days, giving runners the flexibility to choose between Saturday or Sunday, or even take on both. Each day begins with a coach transfer from Ashbourne to the start at Parsley Hay, allowing participants to enjoy the point-to-point nature of the course without any logistical worries.
Last year’s race was once again a sell-out, and organisers are advising early entry to avoid disappointment. Reflecting on the 2024 event, first-time participant Ruth Darby praised the day as “great organisation, lovely marshals, great course, even in that weather,” adding, “Loved it all. Will be back.”
