The Race Where The Sun Always Shines
Head to Port Sunlight for a day of fast racing, family fun and historical charm...
The streets of Port Sunlight village will once again come alive with runners on 8 June, as the Port Sunlight 5K and 10K races return for another year of fast times, family fun, and scenic racing. Founded in 2014, the event has become a fixture on the local running calendar and continues to grow in popularity, thanks to its unique setting and community atmosphere.
Set in the model village built by ‘Soap King’ William Hesketh Lever in 1888 to house workers from his Sunlight Soap factory, Port Sunlight offers a picturesque and compact course packed with character. Today, the village is home to stunning architecture, the Lady Lever Art Gallery, the Port Sunlight Museum and beautifully maintained parkland - all of which provide a spectacular backdrop for runners and spectators alike.
The 5K race takes runners on a single, winding lap through the village streets, offering a mix of tight turns, light undulations and fast stretches for those looking to push their pace. The 10K follows and comprises two laps of the 5K course. The atmosphere around the start and finish area, set on the Windy Bank village green near the central fountain, is set to be electric.
In addition to the main races, a 1K fun run for kids will take place shortly after the 10K concludes. Open to all and with entries taken on the day, the children’s run is designed to get young runners involved and excited about sport. Every participant will receive a medal and a small reward at the finish.
One of the standout features of this event is the Dual Race Challenge, which offers runners the chance to take on both the 5K and 10K back-to-back. This popular option has gained a growing following in recent years and includes two race entries, two medals, two t-shirts and a special bonus medal for those completing both distances.
Organisers commented recently: "So far this year all three BTR events have sold out and the Port Sunlight 10K and 5K is heading that way. With just over two weeks to go entries will close shortly so if you don't want to miss this amazing day then get your entry in very soon."
