The St Magnus Marathon is organised by the Birsay Community Association and is recognised as the UK's most northerly Marathon. Starting at St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall and finishing at Birsay Community Hall, the event also includes a three person Marathon relay and a community 5K Fun Run.
The Scottish Athletics certified Marathon follows the historic route associated with the journey of St Magnus's followers across Orkney's West Mainland. The scenic but challenging course uses public roads through rolling countryside before finishing in Birsay, while the relay divides the route into three legs, allowing teams to experience the event together.
The event features chip timing, seven water stations, baggage transport, changing facilities, a finisher's medal and post race refreshments. Combining Orkney's history, spectacular island scenery and strong community support, the St Magnus Marathon has become one of Scotland's most distinctive Marathon events.
