Archer Takes Aim (Again)
Marshall Smith and Holly Archer lead 7,798 home in Norwich...
A beautiful sunny morning set the scene for a fantastic day as the 10th edition of Run Norwich took place on Sunday, 7th September 2025. Just under 7,800 runners ran the sold-out Run Norwich 10K race – the highest number in the event’s history (see picture below).
Over 800 people were running for Norwich City FC's Community Sports Foundation, all wearing the charity's canary yellow t-shirt, helping raise essential funds for the Foundation’s work with disabled and disadvantaged individuals across Norfolk.
Two talented cross-border raiders were at the front of this 'opera of canaries'. In the men’s race, debutant Marshall Smith, of Ashford AC in Kent, claimed overall victory in 31:28. Meanwhile, reigning champion Holly Archer of Cambridge & Coleridge AC, wearing bib number one, delivered another impressive performance to retain her title in 35:34. 'The Archer' can be seen above, striking her trademark finish line bow and arrow pose!
City of Norwich AC provided the four remaining podium finishers. The runners-up in the men's race were Danny Adams (32:17) and Harry Allcock (32:41), and in the women's race, Mabel Beckett (36:42) and Eleanor Grubb (37:02). Over 150 runners beat 40 minutes; more than 1,500 were inside 50 minutes, and nearly 4,000 ran sub-60 minutes – phenomenal!
The pre-race atmosphere was buzzing in the Chapelfield Gardens Race Village, again a hive of energy, excitement and community spirit. Here you could find food and beverage outlets, physio massage for a donation, baggage drop, race merchandise, and the popular Runner Recharge Zone, where runners could collect a free bottle of Woodforde’s Bolt 0.5% IPA and a packet of Simply Roasted crisps, in exchange for a used race number.
The 10K race, supported by strategic partner Norse Group, was officially started by Norwich City FC midfielder Mirko Topić, joined by Philip Nicholson and Georgia Baker, running in memory of Georgia’s mum, Melissa Baker. Also present was Justin Galliford, Chief Executive of Norse Group, alongside representatives from Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, the race organisers.
Before the main event, the second-ever Junior Run Norwich took place, with over 500 young runners lining up on Theatre Street to tackle the 1.5K route. This inspiring event gave the next generation of athletes a taste of the big race-day experience, while also supporting the charitable work of the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation.
Ian Thornton OBE, Chief Executive of Community Sports Foundation, commented: “Run Norwich is always about more than just running – it's about people coming together to support meaningful causes, including ours. This year was a perfect reflection of that spirit”.
