Racing At Romney
runABC reporter Alan says get down to Romney Marsh 10K for a good time...
The 16th Romney Marsh 10K on Sunday, 13 July 2025, should start with a comfortable 22C and a slight north-easterly breeze to cool the expected 300+ runners. This is a race favourite for Kent-based runABC South news reporter, Alan Newman, who will have serious FOMO this year as he rests a groin strain. Alan last ran the Romney Marsh 10K in 2023, managing 45:02 the day before his 70th birthday – thus missing an age-group award!
Last-minute entries are available via the runABC South race listing. On-the-day entries may also be available for the 10K (£25) and the Children's Dash (£7). Parking is available at Marsh Academy in Station Road or with care and courtesy to residents on local roads throughout the picture postcard market town of New Romney.
Nice Work organises the Romney Marsh 10K on behalf of the Romney Marsh Rotary Club. The course uses the flat tarmac country lanes around the pretty town of New Romney. You won't be disappointed by the views as you explore this stunning landscape. It's a great race for runners of all abilities.
The Rotary Club of Romney Marsh is a group of men and women seeking to make a difference within their local communities through fundraising and local community activities. Their club is based on the idea of “Service above self”, good friendship, with an emphasis on having fun! By racing at the Romney Marsh 10K, you'll be helping to support local causes and the humanitarian efforts of the Rotary Club of Romney Marsh.
Race HQ is on St Martins Field, Fairfield Road, New Romney, Kent, adjacent to the start (pictured above). The route is slightly undulating and fast times are possible. Last year's winners were Wegahta Zerom (Ashford AC, 32:22) and W55 Maria Heslop (Tonbridge AC, 38:01). The top 20 ran under 40 minutes; nearly 90 went under 50 minutes, and 268 finished inside 90 minutes.
Romney Marsh is an area of flat, rich agricultural land reclaimed from the sea after the harbour began to silt up. New Romney, one of the original Cinque Ports, was once a seaport, with the harbour adjacent to the church, but is now more than a mile from the sea. It is the HQ of Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, which is running on race day.
Alan sends his best wishes to all Romney Marsh 10K competitors as he carefully applies ice and a massage gun to his injury!
