Potters Arf Marathon

20 Years Of Potters 'Arf

Potters ‘Arf Marathon gears up for 20th anniversary celebration...

There’s still time to enter one of the UK’s most iconic and community-driven races, as the Potters ‘Arf Marathon prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary on 28 September. Held in Stoke-on-Trent, the Potters ‘Arf is widely regarded as one of the country’s most unique half marathons, known for its demanding course, passionate local support and unforgettable atmosphere at the city centre finish.

This year’s milestone edition promises to be extra special as organisers mark two decades since the event was first launched in 2005 as a successor to the Potteries Marathon. From its early years to now, the Potters ‘Arf has grown into a much-loved annual tradition. More than 2,500 runners took part in 2024, and with the backing of the local community and renewed energy around its 20th year, organisers are hoping to grow that number to 3,000 participants in 2025.

The 13.1-mile route is a true test of strength and spirit, featuring the notoriously steep Heartbreak Hill and plenty of rolling climbs throughout the city. But the reward is worth it with finishers earning a distinctive medal and the applause of thousands lining the route.

The event is also proud to continue its commitment to supporting local charities with proceeds and fundraising efforts going back into the community. Volunteers, local businesses and residents all play a part in making the day a success, creating a festival-like atmosphere that reflects the heart of the city.

The Potters ‘Arf also caters to younger runners with dedicated 2K and 1K junior runs held on the same day, giving families the opportunity to get involved and celebrate the sport together.

Organisers told us: "Whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking on your first half marathon, or simply looking to be part of a major community celebration, the 2025 Potters ‘Arf Marathon is set to be a truly memorable occasion."
