New Half For Lanarkshire
Race festival launches in North Lanarkshire this summer...
Exciting news for Scottish runners as the brand-new North Lanarkshire Half Marathon, sponsored by Albert Bartlett, is set to take place on Sunday, 24 August, starting and finishing at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility. The latest addition to the Run NL programme promises an exciting and inclusive event for runners of all ages and abilities.
This week, Councillor Woods, Provost Kenneth Duffy, and representatives from Albert Bartlett met with the organising team to finalise plans for the race, which will feature a unique new route through Motherwell and the surrounding areas. The chip-timed event is open to participants aged 16+, offering a fast, exciting course.
In addition to the Half Marathon, the event will also introduce a brand-new 5K race, open to runners aged 11 and over, giving younger athletes and newcomers a chance to experience an officially timed race on a specially designed course.
All participants in the Half Marathon and 5K will receive a race t-shirt, along with fruit, water, cereal bars and hydration gels to fuel their run. There will also be fantastic prizes for the top three finishers in multiple age categories.
The day isn’t just about the longer races - there’s something for everyone, including a 1K race for P5-P7, a 400m event for P1-P4, and a Toddler Dash for pre-schoolers (ages 3-5). Every child who takes part will receive a unique finisher’s medal, making it a fantastic opportunity for young runners to get involved in the excitement.
Beyond the races, the event will be a fun-filled family day, featuring bouncy castles, trampolines, face painting, and 'Come & Try' sports sessions led by local coaches. Live music, entertainment and food and refreshment stalls will add to the festival atmosphere, making it a must-attend occasion for the whole community.
