Newton Road Races Return
Newton Road Runners' tribute race to Cat Gaskell returns this November...
Newton Road Runners will once again host the Newton Road Races 10K and 3K honouring the memory of much-loved club member Cat Gaskell, who tragically passed away in 2021. There's still plenty of time to get race ready as the date in question is 8 November.
Starting from Westburn Hall in Cambuslang, both races follow a scenic out-and-back route along the Clyde pathway. With a smooth tarmac surface, minimal elevation and no traffic to worry about, the route is ideal for runners chasing personal bests. While the course is largely flat, a few 'spicy' hills provide just enough challenge before a fast finish.
Entry to the 10K is open to runners aged 15 and over, while the 3K welcomes all ages, with children under 11 required to run with an accompanying adult. This year, Stomp Socks has partnered with the event to provide a selection of exciting prizes, while every finisher will receive a well-earned goodie bag. Course records stand at 32:19 for men (Ross Macdonald, 2024) and 37:20 for women (Natalie Wangler, 2023).
The Newton Road Races were first held just months after Cat’s passing, with the support of her family, to raise funds for SAMH and Macmillan. The inaugural event was a huge success, drawing overwhelming support from the local community and beyond. Since then, the race has continued to raise awareness around mental ill health and support causes that help those affected.
After the finish line, all runners, volunteers and supporters are invited to the Newton Arms for drinks, pizza and a charity raffle, capturing the essence of what makes the running community so special.
