Beach Race's Birthday Bash

Entries open very soon for a popular North East beach race's tenth birthday bash...

A popular springtime North East race will open for entries on 30 October for its 10th anniversary outing - so get your keyboard fingers at the ready next week to book a spot at the 2025 Newburgh Beach Bash. Newburgh Dunes Running Club's (NDRC) annual 10K multi-terrain race will celebrate its birthday on 22 March.

The multi-terrain 10K starts near the Gallows Hill Community Pavilion and sees runners enjoy a route through part of the beautiful Forvie National Nature Reserve. The terrain is a real mix with pavement, trail, sand dunes and beach all covered.

Those who live in the area can also take part in winter social runs in the lead up to the Beach Bash which offer a great opportunity to check out the route. More details on that can be found at the NDRC website. Formed in 2015  to provide a focal point for local runners wishing to run with a friendly group of like-minded individuals the club is open to runners of all levels.

Back to the race itself....this year some 270 runners took part with top spot going to Newburgh Dunes' very own Jack Arnold in 36:50. First female was Ellen Astley of Strathclyde University Harriers in 43:02. You'll need to be going some to beat the amazing male and female course records set at the Beach Bash in 2023 and 2020 respectively - these are currently held by Kyle Greig (35:30) and Debbie Greig (40:11).

Speaking about the celebrations organisers tell us: "As it's our tenth anniversary, we are arranging a commemorative t-shirt. However, if you don't want one and would like to do something for the planet instead, you can choose to have a tree planted on your behalf as we have partnered with TreesNotTees this year."
