Saddleworth Res Returns

Moorland challenge returns with two new distances for 2025...

Trail runners and endurance athletes, get ready! The Saddleworth Res’s event is back on 1 March with an exciting lineup of races set against the dramatic backdrop of the Saddleworth moors. Now offering three distance options - the 5 Res’s Trail Run, the 10 Res’s Off-Road Marathon, and the 15 Res’s Ultra Marathon - this event is a must for those seeking a true moorland test.

Runners will navigate a challenging mix of paved paths, rugged tracks, steep climbs, stream crossings, and notorious bogs as they traverse some of the area’s most striking reservoirs. The routes promise stunning views on a clear day and an unforgiving grind when the weather turns. Each course is fully supported with checkpoints stocked with food, timing by Open Tracking, and a post-event meal to refuel after the challenge.

The 5 Res’s Trail Run (25K) features 710m of ascent, a steep climb at Rimmons Clough and an indoor checkpoint before the final stretch home. The 10 Res’s Off-Road Marathon takes runners on a 44K journey through deep bogs and rocky crossings, with legendary checkpoint snacks and the famous CraggRunner ‘tipple’ to keep spirits high.

For the ultimate endurance test, the 15 Res’s Ultra Marathon covers 60K with 1,876m of ascent, winding through Black Hill, Toolyshaw Moor, and Laddow Rocks before the final push to the finish.

Organisers say: "With a true wilderness feel and routes that test both physical and mental endurance, Saddleworth Res’s is an event like no other. Whether you’re taking on the trail run, marathon, or ultra, be prepared for a gritty, rewarding adventure."
