Lutterworth 5 Returns

Spaces are filling fast for this Leicestershire race that is as heartfelt as it is fun...

Runners across Leicestershire and beyond are being urged to lace up their shoes and head to the countryside on 6 July, as the much-loved Lutterworth 5 returns to the calendar after a five-year hiatus. The popular five-mile race, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Lutterworth countryside, will once again start and finish at the Lutterworth Rugby Club, offering participants a rural, largely flat, single-lap course along quiet country lanes.

First launched in 2013, the event quickly became a fixture of the local running scene, drawing both seasoned club runners and casual participants alike with its inclusive, welcoming atmosphere. Between 2013 and 2019, the race raised over £20,000 for dementia-related charities, thanks to the tireless efforts of founders Alan and Milly Slater. Like many events, it was forced into a pause during the pandemic, but organisers are excited to bring it back in 2025 with a new team at the helm and the same commitment to community, health and charity.

This year, all proceeds from the race will go to the Lutterworth-based Academy for Dementia Research and Education, a local organisation that works closely with individuals recently diagnosed with dementia. Their work focuses on engaging and stimulating group sessions that offer vital social interaction and support for families.

Runners who complete the five-mile challenge will be rewarded with a bespoke medal and finish-line goodies, while spectators and supporters can enjoy refreshments, a cake stall and what promises to be a fantastic family-friendly atmosphere. Organisers are also hoping to stage a 200-metre dash for children, adding to the inclusive spirit of the day.
