Lostock's Perfect Day
A 40th anniversary and a broken course record gave plenty reasons to celebrate at the weekend's Lostock 6...
It was a splendidly sunny day for for the 40th edition of Bolton's Lostock 6. Well over 400 runners took to the streets to be a part of this long-standing 6 mile road race which is hosted by Lostock AC.
A spokesperson for Lostock AC, commented: “Thank you to everyone who entered and ran our 40th anniversary Lostock 6 race. We were treated with good weather, lots of smiles and laughter. Congratulations to everyone and well done.”
Those taking part were equally enthusiastic on social media with Ian Thomson commenting in Facebook: "Really enjoyed it and a particular thank you to the marshals who were amazingly enthusiastic throughout."
The medal was a tribute to the club's president, John Smith, who was involved in starting the race way back in the eighties and still trains with the club today!
40th celebrations aside, there was another cause for excitement on Sunday, with the male course record being broken by Harry Wakefield of Salford Harriers - who stormed round the course in 29:04. Harry claimed a cash prize of £150 which was sponsored by Spice Valley Restaurant. He was joined on the podium by Joe Beech of Preston Harriers who claimed second place in 30:10 and by Luke Edwards of Liverpool Pembroke and Sefton who came third place in 30:22.
In the women's race it was Heather Tomlinson of Bolton United Harriers who won in a superb time of 36:28 while Carolyn Capsey of Swinton Running Club was second in 38:30 and Katrina Kelly of Mornington Chasers came third in 38:57.
