Fast Friday Night In Glasgow
Elite runners set for a big night at tonight's Brian Goodwin Memorial 10K...
Some of the best road runners in Scotland and beyond will line up in Glasgow this Friday evening for the 2025 Brian Goodwin Memorial 10K. The popular summer race, hosted by Bellahouston Harriers, returns with a sell-out field of 550 runners ready to take on the fast two-lap course around Pollok Park.
With sunshine and a light breeze forecast, conditions look ideal for racing and the event combines top-level competition with a relaxed Friday evening atmosphere. A beer and burger at the finish are included in the entry, adding to the event’s appeal for club athletes and social runners alike.
In the women’s race, Irish international Fionnuala Ross makes her debut at the event and arrives with a strong pedigree. The Shettleston Harriers athlete, a multiple European cross-country representative, brings a 10K personal best of 33:13 and could be in contention to challenge the course record of 33:51, set by Morag Millar of Central AC.
Bellahouston Harriers’ own Rosa Donaldson will be one to watch after a breakthrough season that saw her earn a Scotland vest at the home countries international cross-country. Sixth at this race last year, Donaldson has been steadily improving and will be aiming to move up the standings.
Rachel Harman, another Bellahouston Harrier, has shown sharp form recently with a 17:14 at Victoria parkrun, while Cambuslang Harriers’ Holly Little and Central AC’s Grace Whelan are set to make their first appearances at the Goodwin. Little boasts a 10K best of 35:42, while Whelan’s 16:58 over 5K in April signals good form heading into race night.
The men’s field is led by Callum Hawkins, who returns to defend his title. The Kilbarchan AAC athlete, a former Olympian, clocked 29:45 to win in 2024 and has gone even quicker in previous editions. With a 63:47 half marathon in Madrid earlier this year, Hawkins is showing strong form and will be aiming to dip under 30 minutes once again.
John Bell of Inverclyde AC, who finished on the podium last year, is expected to be among the main contenders. With a 10K PB of 30:06 and a win earlier this year at the Renfrewshire AAA 5-mile championships, Bell has momentum on his side.
Former Bellahouston Harriers Robbie Ferguson and Jack Heathwood are also expected to be in the mix. Ferguson, now with Kilbarchan AAC, brings a 30:15 10K PB and recent track success, while Heathwood has been enjoying a strong 2025 with personal bests over 1500m, 3000m and 10 miles.
Shettleston Harriers’ Jonathan Moore could also be a factor. He finished just behind Heathwood last year and has already clocked two sub-15-minute 5Ks this season. With a 10K best of 31:20, he could be poised for a big performance.
