Moray In Spring

Now's the time to sign up to a springtime marathon challenge...

Runners looking ahead to a spring marathon in 2026 can set their sights on the Moray Marathon which returns on 5 April. With a fast, flat course and a warm local feel, this event offers something for both experienced marathoners. The associated Chilled 20 offers something a little shorter for those training for a later spring race like Manchester or London.

Held at Morriston Playing Fields in Elgin, the Moray Marathon is the only springtime road marathon in the north east of Scotland and is fast earning a reputation for its smooth organisation and scenic route. The course begins and ends on the Morriston Track, where runners will be welcomed back with a medal, refreshments and support from spectators, family and friends.

After a successful revival in 2024, the marathon has been praised for its friendly atmosphere and quality experience for runners of all abilities. Course records currently stand at 2:34:20 for men, held by Donnie MacDonald, and 3:01:55 for women, set by Muriel MacLeod. Cash prizes are on offer for anyone who can break them.

Introduced in 2025, the Chilled 20 is the only Scottish Athletics measured 20-mile race in the north of Scotland. It joins the marathon route at the 6.2-mile point and follows the same road to the finish, making it ideal for marathon prep or for those wanting a supported final long run with a race-day feel.

With chip timing, measured routes, elite support options and dedicated resources for first-time runners, the Moray Marathon weekend offers a high-quality experience in a manageable and inclusive setting. Organisers say: "We are committed to maintaining the event’s size to ensure every runner feels supported, whether chasing a personal best, a qualifying time or simply the joy of completing the distance."
