Festival In The Lakes
Head to the Lake District for an early summer celebration of trail running and adventure...
The Lake District Running Festival returns this summer (31 May-1 June), offering a spectacular weekend of trail running and outdoor adventure in one of the UK’s most breathtaking landscapes. A collaboration between OMM and Grasmere Gallop, the festival brings together runners of all abilities to enjoy scenic courses, friendly competition and a true celebration of the great outdoors.
At the heart of the festival is the Grasmere Gallop, a long-standing tradition dating back to 1985. Runners can choose from 5K, 10K, 17K, or the challenging 42K trail marathon, each taking in stunning views of Loughrigg, Rydal Caves and Grasmere’s picturesque landscape.
Every finisher is rewarded with a bespoke wooden medal, free race photos and (most importantly) cake at the finish line. For younger participants, the Teddy Dash offers a fun-filled challenge for under-5s, complete with medals and lollipops.
For those seeking a unique test of endurance and navigation, the festival also hosts the OMM Lite, a checkpoint-based adventure challenge inspired by the legendary Original Mountain Marathon. Participants are given a map with 30 checkpoints scattered across the valley and must strategise the best route to collect as many points as possible before returning to race HQ.
Beyond the races, the festival atmosphere extends into the charming village of Grasmere, just a short walk from the event site. Runners and spectators alike can explore local pubs, cafés and shops, including the world-famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, which has been delighting visitors since 1854.
