Running The Kintyre Way
You would be hard pushed to find a more scenic ultra marathon than this one...
The Kintyre Way is one of Scotland’s most scenic long-distance paths offering serious trail running in idyllic surroundings with views across the sea to Arran, Islay, Jura and Gigha at various times as well as Ailsa Craig and Northern Ireland from the southern section. This year's Kintyre Way Ultra will take place on 10 May with runners tackling a 35 mile course from Machrihanish to Southend to Campbeltown.
As one of the shorter ultras available, and offering a variety of terrains, the Kintyre Way Ultra offers an ideal introduction to trail running, or the perfect step-up from a marathon, while providing challenging preparation for longer Ultras. There are no easy options, however, so you will need to have an understanding of how to prepare for this type of event.
Speaking about the 2025 edition, organisers said: "We will be announcing an enhanced experience at the finish this year, this will take the form of showers at Glengyle Distillery, announcements of arrivals (runners will be asked to provide an interesting fact about themselves) and musical entertainment. There will be additional food and drink outlets."
These new provisions will be in addition to the usual refreshments at finish, free massage and kids entertainment.
You can enter as a solo runner or as a relay team of two. Each relay runner must enter separately and you don't all have to enter at the same time, the only link being your team name which should be agreed beforehand.
