The Panoramic Trail Race
This scenic trail race continues to be a highlight of the North Yorkshire running calendar...
Set against a beautiful Yorkshire backdrop, the James Herriot Country Trail Run returns for its 19th edition on 27 July and there is still time to get yourself a spot. The 14K race winds through moorland tracks and scenic paths near Castle Bolton in Wensleydale, offering runners a uniquely peaceful and panoramic trail experience in the heart of what’s affectionately known as James Herriot Country.
Nestled between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, this region is famed for its rolling hills, picturesque villages and timeless landscapes. The race, which attracts entrants from across England each year, is hosted with the kind permission of Lord Bolton and starts and finishes in a field near Bolton Castle car park.
The 2024 event was a resounding success, held on a warm and sunny day that made for ideal conditions for spectators and volunteers, if a little hot for the runners. Matthew Cardus of Settle was the first to cross the line in a time of 56:14, while Katie Smith from Hook was the first woman home in 68:50.
More than £3,000 was raised for local charities thanks to the efforts of the Rotary Club of Wensleydale, who organise the event each year.
Runners in 2025 can look forward to taking on the same much-loved route, which blends open moorland and sweeping views.
