Islay Marathon Returns

Enjoy the natural beauty of Scotland’s whisky island and experience a Hebridean running adventure...

The Islay Marathon is set to return this autumn on 14 September and promises to offer runners an unforgettable journey through some of Scotland’s most stunning coastal and rural landscapes. Starting from Bruichladdich, participants will follow a route that weaves through iconic Islay villages including Bridgend, Bowmore and Port Ellen, before turning around at Ardbeg along the famed Three Distilleries path.

Those taking part will experience the beauty of the Queen of the Hebrides while running in one of the most scenic marathons in the world! Organisers say: "Whether tackling the full distance solo or taking part as a relay team, all runners can expect a warm Islay welcome and post-race hospitality including sandwiches, soup and cakes at the finish line in Port Ellen."

The marathon is run in memory of Menzies MacAffer, a Royal Marine and passionate marathon runner. Funds raised will support local charities and initiatives, helping children in the community access new experiences.

Registration will take place the day before at Islay High School where participants can also enjoy a pasta dinner and dessert for just £10. Why not make a weekend of it and enjoy all Islay has to offer, which besides the running is obviously the plethora of fantastic distilleries!
