Rat Race 100

Ultra For Everyone

This inclusive coastal ultra returns in 2026 with spaces filling up fast...

From 4-6 July 2026, Rat Race’s flagship 100-mile ultramarathon will once again take runners and walkers from Bamburgh Castle on the Northumberland coast to a spectacular finish at the foot of Edinburgh Castle.

Designed to be the UK’s most inclusive long-distance event, the Rat Race 100 removes many of the barriers typically associated with ultrarunning. Organisers say: "There are no qualifying standards, the pace is walker-friendly at 2.5mph, and the fully waymarked route is supported with pit stops, logistics, and sleep stations to give every participant the best possible chance of success."

The event has already established itself as a coastal classic. At its inaugural staging, 65% of entrants crossed the finish line in Edinburgh, making it the most completable 100-miler in the UK. In 2026, Rat Race hopes to push that figure even higher, with a strong emphasis on community, camaraderie, and support every step of the way.

A standout achievement has been the race’s success in welcoming more women into the world of ultrarunning. While women now make up just over 30% of ultra participants globally, the Rat Race 100 boasts a remarkable 43% female entry rate for 2026, the highest participation level in any UK ultra of this distance. Organisers credit this to intentional inclusion, female-focused support on course, and a commitment to making ultrarunning accessible to all.

Entries for the 2026 event are now 95% full, and demand is expected to grow further as race day approaches. So you'll need to be quick if you want to get your hands on the biggest medal in Rat Race’s UK series, along with the pride of conquering one of the country’s most breathtaking routes!
