Stuart's Road To Glasgow
This October, Glasgow’s AJ Bell Great Scottish Run will welcome thousands of runners, including members of Fit Ayrshire Dads...
Glasgow has always been a city with vision, and this October, thousands of runners will carry that legacy forward at the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run. Among them is Stuart Ronald, part of the thriving Fit Ayrshire Dads community.
What began as a small Facebook group has grown into a network of over 3,500 men committed to improving fitness, mental health, and community spirit. Around 100 members take part in weekly activities, from training sessions to mountain days, and many have tested themselves at events like the Great Scottish Run. Together, they’ve raised more than £12,000 for local causes, including Whiteleys Retreat, which supports young people and families affected by cancer and life-altering illnesses.
For Stuart, the group’s value goes far beyond running. “Mental health support, especially for men, can be really hard to find,” he explains. “The group is about more than just fitness. It’s a safe place for men to support each other, make changes, and push themselves to do things they maybe didn’t think were possible.”
This year, several Ayrshire Dads will be at the 10K start line. Some are seasoned runners, while others, like Stuart, are stepping outside their comfort zone. He admits his summer training was aimed at a strongman competition: 'probably the exact opposite of running training' but he’s determined to give it his best while soaking up the atmosphere. His personal target? Somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes, though he jokes he’ll be a 'party at the back' runner.
With the thrill of crossing the Kingston Bridge and the electric finish at Glasgow Green, Stuart can’t wait. And with the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run less than three weeks away, now’s the time to join him. Secure your place and be part of Scotland’s biggest running celebration on Sunday 5 October.
