Fifth Win For Robinson
We delve into the long and the short of Gloucester 10K organisation...
Nigel Tillott, of Davies & Partners Solicitors, was Race Director of the Gloucester 10K for 11 years, having rescued the event from its disappearance. Nigel is a committed Rotarian, enjoying the support of the Rotary Club of Gloucester Quays in organising the event. He is a marathon and ultra runner, with several London and Jungfrau Marathons under his belt.
Alex May has been a Rotarian in Gloucester for eight years and was involved in helping Nigel run Gloucester 10K all that time. Now that Davies & Partners has handed over running the event to Gloucester Rotary, Alex has stepped up to fill Nigel’s shoes this year. Alex is also a runner, although his 680 race miles have been run in about 200 events, averaging around 5K per outing.
So, that's the long and short of it regarding the organisation of the perennially sold-out Gloucester 10K. The 12th iteration in its present form was held on Sunday, 29 June 2025, with 843 finishers in an average time just under the hour (59:57).
An early start time of 8:30am is designed to avoid any disruption in the city, and to give runners and supporters plenty of time to explore the city and go for a coffee or other refreshment. The course is a single lap showcasing the best of Gloucester's historic city, featuring the cathedral, the canal towpath, and dockland areas. The start and finish are in a park called simply The Park!
The top three men this year were Ben Robinson (Bristol & West AC, 31:06) – unbeaten in this race since 2021 – followed by Charlie Worsfold (Gloucester AC, 33:12) and Anthony Cruise (Gloucester AC, 34:22). The leading ladies were Agnieszka Wilk (unattached, 39:10), Lauren Cooper (unattached, 41:34) and W40 Natalie Cranfield (Severn AC, 42:08). There were 848 finishers in 1:37:58.
The team awards went to Severn AC (men and women). The Corporate Challenge for local businesses and groups was won by Main Race Kings Pupils. Gloucester 10K is a community-based charity event. This year's lead charities were Young Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire Young Carers, Gloucestershire Vision Care for Homeless People, and Charlie's Community Support.
Runners' comments showed appreciation for the group warm-up by SOH Fit, personalised numbers, supportive and cheery marshals, well-positioned water stations, and the uplifting sounds from the drummers on the canal towpath.
