Croome Capability Canter

Cantering Into Autumn

With its mix of history, scenery and challenge this Worcestershire multi-terrain event is a winner...

The ever-popular Croome Capability Canter will return on 30 November, bringing runners back to the historic National Trust estate for a 6.5-mile multi-terrain challenge. Organised by Black Pear Joggers, the race is consistently voted among the UK’s top off-road events by readers of Runners World and has developed a reputation for its stunning setting and friendly atmosphere.

The undulating route was designed around the landscapes of 18th-century architect Lancelot 'Capability' Brown and takes in some of the most scenic views Worcestershire has to offer. Runners can expect a tough climb at the start and finish, with mostly flat stretches in between, and a mix of trails and off-road paths to keep things varied.

Entries are always in high demand and the race regularly sells out, with participants drawn by the combination of testing terrain and beautiful parkland. Every finisher will receive a medal, goody bag and winners’ prizes will be awarded on the day.

Profits from the event are donated to the National Trust to support the upkeep of Croome Park, with a portion also used for the club’s outreach programme to help more people with visual impairments take up running.

This year marks a welcome return to its usual late-November slot, after the 2024 edition was postponed and staged in February, attracting close to 300 runners. On that occasion, Arty Wilson-Spence of Worcester AC took the win in 38:28, with Petra Vymetalova of Cheltenham & County Harriers first woman in 48:32.
