Woods Defends Goodwood
It's another PB-fest at the Chichester 10K...
The historic Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit and environs at Chichester have been yielding fast times for runners for many years and the Chichester 10K on Sunday 2 February 2025 maintained that proud tradition.
The organisation by Runbase Events is as smooth as the road surface with Race Director Gavin Stephens at the helm of this traditional Sussex pipe-opener. The same experienced team is also behind Worthing 10K on 8 June 2025 and Brighton 10K on 16 November 2025.
Last year's Chichester 10K saw 105 runners under 35 minutes. The tally this year was 90, including the top three women! This was the 33rd Chichester 10K and free entry was again offered to elite athletes with times of 30:30 (male) and 35:00 (female).
The defending champion Jack Woods (Worthing & District Harriers, 30:05 PB) set the standard at the front of the 1,118 finishers. He was followed across the spectacular finish line in front of a cheering crowd in the grandstand by M45 master Kevin Quinn (South London Harriers, 30:27 PB) and Matthew Grindrod (Brighton & Hove City AC, 30:47 PB).
Also ducking under the 31-minute mark were George Suthon (Reading AC, 30:51 PB) and Tom Higgs (South London Harriers, 30:56).
The women's race went to Charlotte Alexander (Tonbridge AC) who was nine seconds outside her previous best with 34:04. W40 Lauren Reed (Havering AC, 34:25) and Kate Drew (Southampton, 34:43) completed the sub-35:00 women's podium.
It was a cold but bright morning in Sussex as 270 runners managed 4min/km for a sub-40:00 10K. Make that 5min/km for sub-50:00 and the number more than doubled to 620, and nearly 950 beat the hour. The final runners were under the finish line gantry inside 90 minutes.
