Bovingdon 10K medal 2025

Flying In Bovingdon!

Kate Rennie earns her wings in the Bovingdon 10K...

The handsome medal above was awarded to all 177 finishers in the Bovingdon 10K on Sunday, 24 August 2025. The medal depicts a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, an American four-engined heavy bomber. This fast and high-flying bomber dropped more bombs than any other aircraft during World War II, and was used by the USAF in the European Theater of Operations, flying from the Bovingdon airfield that closed in 1969.

Also flying on Sunday were the competitors in the Bovingdon 10K, exclusively open to the first 200 runners to register. The race is a joint enterprise between Gade Valley Harriers and the host venue, Bovingdon Football Club, near Hemel Hempstead. The course is a single lap on quiet country roads around Bovingdon, Belsize, and Flaunden, with scenic stretches through Woodmans Wood, Lower Plantation, and Hogpits Bottom.

Only four men stayed ahead of the women's winner: Peter Gould (35:17), Jay Munkley (37:08), James Dias (37:19) and Richard Brawn (37:27). It was Kate Rennie, a W50 master from Dacorum AC with a 2024 PB of 36:12, who earned her wings with a super time of 38:22 in fourth overall. Kate was joined on the women's roll of honour by Mairead O'Rourke (43:07) and Georgina Mann (44:09).

A dozen athletes ducked under 40 minutes, 70 were under 50 minutes, and the hour was beaten by more than 130 runners on a beautiful morning in the Hertfordshire countryside.

This village community 10K on a certified, officially measured, chip-timed course is an England Athletics licenced event, supported with a grant from Dacorum Borough Council.

The 10K is supported by mile Fun Runs for Junior School and Senior School students around the football fields, and a BBQ and bar are open to celebrate after the main event.
